Urgent and Routine GP Appointments

We are committed to providing all of our patients with timely and effective care.  To help us to manage urgent needs alongside routine appointments, our capacity for urgent same-day issues is carefully managed by a dedicated GP.  This ensures we can prioritise the most critical cases.  Sometimes, we may direct you to other appropriate NHS servics.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us provide safe and effective care for everyone.  For life-threatening emergencies, please call 999 immediately.

All requests for GP appointments are submitted to the dedicated triage doctor.  You can submit online consultation requests from 8am until 6.30pm Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays).

Due to capacity limits, online consultations (Patchs) will close once the daily limit for appointments is reached.  If you encounter this please see below.

To request an urgent appointment (same day) or a routine appointment in the next 7 to 14 days:

  • To use Patchs via our website click on 'Contact Your GP Online' on the home page.
  • Patchs can also be used for administration matters such as sick notes and prescription / medication requests.
  • Urgent same day appointments - If Patchs is closed, please ring us on 0113 257 0711.
  • Ring us and speak with our receptionist, Monday to Friday 8am to 6.30pm. We will be able to send you a link or help you to complete Patchs.
  • Visit the surgery and speak with a receptionist, Monday to Friday from 8am to 6.30pm and they will help you to complete Patchs.
  • use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.

We will use the information you give us to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or health professional to help you.

Guidance for when our online consultation triage (Patchs) is closed.

Patchs is normally open from 8am until 6.30pm however on some days due to extremely high demand we reach capacity early.

Your safety is our main concern.

Please see the options below to help you get the care you need in the appropriate time frame.

If you require urgent care for today there are four options.

Option 1

If you need immediate medical assistance or you feel your condition is life threatening, please hang up and call 999 now.

Option 2

If you have a minor illness such as a sore throat, cough, cystitis or earache please attend any of the local Pharmacies where their highly trained Pharmacists can offer their expert advice.

Option 3

If the patient has a minor injury or minor illness that needs treating today, except those under the age of 2 or those over the age of 65 who have a head injury or anyone with a pregnancy related health condition, you should call or visit

St Georges Centre Urgent Treatment Centre, Middleton Leeds or

Wharfedale Urgent Treatment centre based at Wharfedale Hospital in Otley.

If it is regarding a minor illness, it is advised that you call them first via 111.

If you feel you need help today Shakespeare Walk In Centre is open until 8pm www.onemedicalgroup.co.uk/surgeries/shakespeare-walk-in-centre.

Option 4

You can also call 111 if any of the above options do not fulfil your care needs or your care needs are outside of the usual Practice opening hours of 8am to 6:30pm Monday to Friday.

If the above options do not fulfil your requirements, you can still call the Practice and speak with Reception however, please be aware that when capacity is reached, our Reception team may still direct you towards the options stated above.

If you need any help finding or using the online consultation triage, please let us know.  We can send you a link or help with this.  We can also help by arranging large print documents or sign language interpreters.

We are mindful of carers' circumstances when arranging appointments. Please let us know if you have any special requirements and we will do our best to assist you.

Missed Appointments

2025
October    262 apts = 35 hours.
November  104 apts = 22 hours.
December  130 apts = 29 hours.

Demand for appointments is at an all-time high. Please help us by not letting valuable appointments go to waste. Wasted appointments increase waiting times, frustrate both patients and staff and are a waste of resources.

Cancelling an Appointment - If you no longer need or are unable to attend a planned appointment, please cancel this as soon as you are aware by calling the surgery or cancelling online.

Appointment slots are valuable and all missed appointments mean another patient has been inconvenienced and a cost to the NHS.

Cancelled appointments can be offered to somebody else who may need it urgently.

You can cancel an appointment by online or by calling the Practice on 0113 2570711

  • on a video call
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email

Home visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10am.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule home visits.

If you live out of our catchment area, please ring 111 to arrange a home visit.

Working closely with the local West Leeds Primary Care Network, a member of their team may also visit you at the request of our doctors.

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Extended access

Our patients can now book GP appointments on Saturdays when you will be seen at The Gables Surgery between 9am and 5pm.  Please ask our reception staff to find out more.
